This month, Eventi had the pleasure of coordinating the wedding of Tim and Sarah, a lovely couple who didn’t let the cloudy skies or rainy weather on their wedding day dampen their joy at becoming man and wife. The couple opened their beautiful home and property to friends and family who—undeterred by the rain--came out en masse to celebrate and enjoy the poolside nuptials and backyard barbecue reception. The CoupleBride Sarah is friendly, down to earth, open, and fun. I loved working with her during the months leading up to the wedding. She is mom to her look-alike 6 year old daughter and works as a local realtor. Groom Tim is a hardworking, handy, and genuine guy who owns his own plumbing company and whose tough, Harley-riding exterior conceals a kind heart (he earned big points with the Eventi team for saving baby bunnies on the morning of the wedding). The Location The ceremony and reception took place in the couple's backyard. While Mother Nature kept up a steady stream of precipitation throughout the day, alternating between misting, drizzling, raining, and occasional downpours, she gave the couple a reprieve just long enough for them to exchange vows in front of a "chapel" created specifically for the occasion. The reception was tented, though many guests mingled or gathered around high-topped tables or under smaller tents scattered around the yard. The chapel, the backdrop for the couple's ceremony, featured a dedication plaque memorializing their joined moniker as well as a stained glass depiction of the bride and groom created by a friend. As night fell, the lights strung across the yard reflected in the pool and lent the scene a romantic feel straight out of a movie as couples danced beneath them. Getting Ready The clouds rolled in and the rain began while the bride sat for hair and makeup; however, she remained upbeat throughout the day and found a reason to smile when florist, Celia's Flower Studio, delivered her beautiful bridal bouquet. The Wedding Party & Ceremony During the ceremony, the bride was attended by her friends and standing up with the groom were his friends and brother. The bride's daughter and the couple's niece and nephew served as flower girls and ring bearer and almost stole the show with their adorable and comical stroll down the aisle. During the reception, formal photos done and figuring they were wet already, this spontaneous group jumped - fully clothed - in the pool! By the end of the reception, at least two-thirds of the wedding party members had ended up taking a dip. The Reception Post-ceremony, guests spent cocktail hour enjoying an iced-coffee bar (the special request of the bride), appetizers from Danvers Fresh Marketplace, and bellying up to the pallet bar handmade by the groom. Guests were invited to personalize and keep mason jar glasses. Dinner was provided and served by the professional and friendly staff of Fibber McGee's. The guests were treated to a menu that included steak tips, barbecued chicken, and pulled pork, rounded out with sides like potato salad, baked mac & cheese, broccoli salad, and grilled corn on the cob. The food was delicious - so good, in fact, that if you find yourself at Fibber's, say hello to the cornbread for me and tell the mac & cheese, I miss it! Plentiful dessert offerings from Bova's Bakery in Boston's North End and Pure Pastry included a coconut cake, Oreo cake, strawberry shortcake, and couple's cake. Decor & Details Capturing the day's special moments was photographer David Volkmann, some of whose photos are featured here, as marked. Other photo credits: Eventi Planning & Coordination. Helping to execute all the details of the day along with me was the indefatigable and skilled Casey, assistant coordinator extraordinaire. Though the couple made the conscious decision to forego many of the traditional wedding customs, their celebration was a perfect example of how blending the non-traditional with classic wedding elements can create a personalized, fun, meaningful and beautiful wedding. From their choice of backyard venue and comfort food BBQ fare to their custom music playlist; by foregoing a cake cutting and including a mid-wedding Harley ride for the newlyweds, the couple's fingerprints were on every detail. Who Tim and Sarah are was definitely reflected in the way they chose to celebrate their love and commitment with friends and family. Congratulations Sarah & Tim!!! Thank you for asking Eventi to be part of your wedding day and for trusting us to execute your vision.
